ALGORITHM, ALGORITHM .. anyone sick of these words?
We may be sick of them but they also help or hurt our business depending on what you use social media for.
This is for all of my friends who use Facebook for marketing / business page / sharing your business / all the things!
Here we are and yet again a social media marketing site is changing their 'algorithm'. Mark Zuckerberg just recently shared the changes that were going to happen with Facebook. To be fair, he is just trying to make things easier for the normal person as well as bring Facebook back to its original purpose which is to see and interact with things or people you love.
But for those of us that have business pages for whatever we are running and have loved using this free marketing tool, we need to also educate ourselves and get on board. This post is just a small way to educate yourself but also your people on how to keep seeing your posts, show them how to engage properly, and keep your traffic levels rising instead of declining.
If you are a business yourself, then take these tidbits and educate your followers before this stuff hits hard (cause it has already started a little bit). If you are not a business person but just someone who likes to see photos your favorite photographer shows, posts that your idol shares, etc then listen up!
Here is my photography business page on Facebook. First things first, like the page!
Secondly, if you have liked a page then you see the fancy 'following' button next to that. If you hover over that button you see that you can set notifications on or off (this is great to have on if you/your people want to be notified when you post so that they can go check it out!). You also see a menu that says 'in your news feed'. By selecting 'see first' you are able to have that business page pop up in your news feed first thing when you log in. This is telling facebook hey I like this page and I wanna see it, boom!
Lastly, there is now an 'explore' tab that means way more to you than it did before. Say you are searching for a hair stylist for your wedding, well come to this explore tab, click on pages, and search for hair stylists in your area. Then every stylist in your city will have their pages pop up and you can click away!
Click on pages feed when you want to scroll through all the favorite pages that you have liked for so long. This is their new home. Instead of bogging down your 'home news feed' with business, they have created a news feed for these pages all by themselves.
Now, I don't know it all. I have done research, read the facebook king's post, and I am just wanting to share something from one friend to another in order to not lose out because of a new structure that is being put in place. I hope that this helps even just one person to know what is changing, help their clients stay up to date, educate others, and help you business buddies out there to stay up front with those that you want to!
