Our California Adventure

Devin and I were coming up on May 24, 2016 - one year from our wedding date. We wanted to celebrate big so we dreamed up a trip and it actually happened. It was such an amazing experience being able to drive up the California coast with just my best friend beside me. We had an absolute blast seeing new things, trying new foods, jamming in the car, and driving for hours on end. Unfortunately, the last day of our trip someone stole Devin's GoPro with so many beautiful memories in pictures and videos. Thankfully, we had my camera and our phones to carry us through. Although we are missing some of our pictures, we will hold those memories dear forever. This was a trip of a lifetime and I am so glad that we got to do it together.

We flew into Los Angeles and drove straight to Santa Monica. This was one of my favorite places, it was such a fun atmosphere! Looking back I still can't get over how beautifully blue California was on the coast!

After lunch in Santa Monica we drove up Highway 1 to Santa Barbara where we stayed for the night. The thing I loved about California was that they had places to pull off about every mile. They must know how much tourists like us want to stop and admire the beauty -- and take pictures! :) We had dinner in what we thought was a horse town outside of Santa Barbara then it was an off early to bed because of the time change!

We woke up super early the next morning (again, time change struggles) so we just hit the road and we got to see a beautiful sunrise in the fields. We continued all along Highway 1, stopping at some of the coolest spots I have ever seen. We stopped when we got to Carmel where we were staying for the night. The temperature changed drastically from about 90 in Santa Monica to 60s and cloudy in Carmel/Monterrey. We walked around the quaint downtown with some Hot Apple Cider and a cookie while sightseeing. Our little car took us down 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach for more views and we finished up with dinner on the Monterrey Wharf, dinner with a view of the water. AND my new favorite animal, sea otters!

Next stop was San Francisco for the day. We got to hang out with my best friend of 10 years in her new city and that was the best. Plus, Devin's sister Taylor was there which was so nice to see some family, we are ready for her to come back home! We ate some delicious Mexican food, saw all that we could in a day, and escaped to a little sailboat for the night. The sailboat was SO worth it. Definitely tight corners but such a fun experience, we even woke up at sunrise and kayaked the bay. #bayisbae

The next two days we hiked through the Redwood Forest - y'all those trees are stinkin HUGE! I've seen pictures but in real life I couldn't even believe it. After our hike we happened to pass Corbel where the Champagne is made, dream. So we stopped for a little mimosa and cinnamon roll. We visited downtown Napa for dinner at the Oxbow Public Market which was one of the coolest places I've been to and finished off the day with ice cream of course. The next day we toured the vineyards of Napa & Sonoma. This stop was my favorite of the whole trip; the beautiful valleys, green vineyards, open air, it was just a little slice of heaven.

We headed from Napa to Lake Tahoe for a little hike and beautiful scenery. The drive there was absolutely breathtaking but we had all of those pictures on the GoPro so our memories will have to do with this one. After Tahoe we drove back to San Francisco and spent our last two days walking around Union Square, day tripping to Sausalito with Tay (best day ever) and then ordering pizza in our hotel the last night. Exhausted but so happy. It was such an incredible trip and I am so thankful that Devin and I got to make these memories together. To many more anniversary trips like this one!
